The Biologics Laboratory Technician will be a key member of the Biologics Research Team at the InMotion Musculoskeletal Institute in Memphis, TN. Projects will focus on the repair and regeneration of tissues of the musculoskeletal system by manipulating biological processes and or the use of biomaterials. The individual will be primarily responsible for carrying out experiments with minimal assistance, record keeping, writing routine reports, providing technical assistance and maintaining laboratory environment and equipment.
REPORTS TO: Manager, Biologics Laboratory
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cell and tissue culture. Preparation, characterization and assessment of the biocompatibility of novel biomaterials. Functional assessment of the materials to support healing and regeneration. Maintaining good documentation practice.
- Perform administrative functions, data maintenance, record keeping and ordering: document, file and archive research data, maintain hardcopy and electronic files, and prepare reports to present the results. Stock-checking and re-ordering chemicals, glassware, and similar consumables.
- Liaising with the Biological Safety officer and other relevant staff on laboratory safety issues. Upholding local regulations with respect to the disposal of Biological hazardous waste.
- Provide technical assistance to the manager of Biologics Laboratory and the other members of the InMotion team (clinicians, researchers, students) with project development and implementation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in cell biology, biological, biochemical, chemical or materials sciences.
- Experience in general cell-culture techniques however some experience in primary cell-culture and cell-isolation from bone or cartilage tissue would be an advantage. Experience with in-vitro and cellular-based assays, molecular biology techniques and/or working with biomaterials would also be advantageous.
- Familiarity with standard MS Office packages such as Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of medical, scientific and technical terminology in musculoskeletal research.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Able to manage several projects simultaneously.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
