James H. Beaty, M.D.

A graduate of Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia and the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, Dr. Beaty is currently Chief of Staff at the Campbell Clinic and Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Tennessee–Campbell Clinic, both in Memphis. Dr. Beaty specializes in pediatric orthopaedics and pediatric trauma.
Active in numerous professional organizations, Dr. Beaty has formerly served as President of the American Board of Orthopaedicsurgery, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association, and the Tennessee Orthopaedic Society. His medical society memberships include the American Medical Association.
Dr. Beaty is also a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, for which he served as President, 2007-2008. He has held leadership positions on various AAOS committees, most recently as the immediate past Chairman of AAOS Committee on Continuing Medical Education and is a former President of the Orthopaedic Learning Center, a joint venture of AAOS and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
Formerly an associate editor for the Instructional Course Lecture Series of the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Dr. Beaty now serves as a consultant reviewer for the publication. He is also on the editorial board for the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, the American Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery, the Journal of the Southern Orthopaedic Association and the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma.
Dr. Beaty has edited four textbooks, including Fractures in Children, authored 48 book chapters, and published more than 39 peer-reviewed scientific articles. He has given many scientific presentations and held visiting professorships both nationally and internationally.
The recipient of numerous honors and awards, Dr. Beaty was selected to complete the American Orthopaedic Association North American Traveling Fellowship in 1984 and the American Orthopaedic Association's prestigious American-British-Canadian Traveling Fellowship in 1991.
