Dr. Heeckt is the Chief Medical Officer at Smith & Nephew, Inc., in Memphis, Tennessee. He has previously served as the Medical Director of Fresenius ProServe for Fresenius AG in Oberursel, Germany, as the Director of Blasticon Biotechnological Research GmbH in Kiel, Germany, as the Director of the Surgical Academy, Maquet AG in Rastatt, Germany, and as Medical Director of Orto Maquet GmbH & Co. KG in Rastatt, Germany.

He earned his M.D. at the University of Munich Medical School, and completed fellowships at the Klinikum Bogenhausen Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, Hand and Burn Surgery in Munich, Germany. Dr. Heeckt completed his residency at the University of Ulm Department of Surgery in Ulm, Germany, and a research fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh.

Among his many grants and awards, Dr. Heeckt has received a German Research Council Research Fellowship, a Fellow Research Award of the American Gastroenterological Association, and was named an Adjunct Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Pittsburgh. He served on the Supervisory Board of the Wittgensteiner Kliniken AG in Bad Berleburg, Germany and on the European Scientific Advisory Board of New Drugs, More recently, Dr. Heeckt has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Ilse and Oskar Vidal Foundation in Hamburg, Germany, to the Advisory Board IHCI Institute of Healthcare Industries, Steinbeis University in Berlin, Germany, and Adjunct Professor of Surgery, University of Ulm, Germany.
